Gracz wciela się w Rosemary Reed, której zadaniem jest spenetrowanie ponurej rezydencji i rozwikłanie zagadki tajemniczego zaginięcia córki jej właściciela – Celeste. Przygodę utrudnia obecność potwornych prześladowców, którym można stawić czoła. Niemniej, o wiele rozsądniejszym wyjściem jest ukrywanie się przed ich wzrokiem i przemykanie za ich plecami, a w sytuacji zagrożenia – salwowanie się ucieczką.
