June 15, 2018 The Money Lessons Dad Teaches Us Father’s Day is on Sunday, and as I started thinking about dads and the roles they play in our lives, I’m struck by how often I still hear my friends and clients say “let me check with my dad” whenever they need to make an important decision. Fathers play a large role in shaping our habits and attitudes towards money, so much that “checking with dad” continues well into our adult lives. This weekend take some time to reflect on what your dad taught you about life and money and be grateful to him for it. Try to incorporate some of those lessons into your lifestyle now, as you plan ahead for the life you want after retirement. And, think about your own family – what do you want to teach the young people in your life, and what kind of protection and legacy do you want to give them? And if you are lucky enough to still have your dad; on Sunday, remember to show your appreciation for all he’s done. Please feel free to share these articles with your friends and family. They are excellent conversation starters.
